In general terms, a conveyor is a piece of equipment, or a set of equipment, used to move material horizontally, on an incline or vertically from one point to another. Conveyors, which are part of Makfen’s product range, transfer loads continuously along a line that is either suspended overhead or mounted on the floor, and they have a very wide range of applications. Baggage handling at airports, grain transfer in silos, coal and ore haulage in mines and the movement of parts on factory assembly and production lines all rely on these systems.
The main conveyor types manufactured by Makfen are belt conveyors (horizontal or inclined), screw conveyors, roller conveyors and vibrating conveyors.
A belt conveyor works by using an electric motor to drive a flexible endless belt made of rubber, plastic or a similar material, running between a drive pulley and a tension pulley. Conveying distance, load, motor power and belt tension are the decisive factors at the design stage. Belt conveyors can carry a wide variety of products, from boxed and packaged goods to bulk materials, with the load travelling in a continuous stream on the belt. The line can be horizontal or inclined, and the structure can be made of stainless steel, aluminium or carbon steel.
Screw conveyors are designed to move a product of a given particle size by pushing it along a trough or tube with a rotating helical screw. By carrying the product in a continuous flow horizontally, on an incline or upwards, screw conveyors offer high throughput and are core equipment in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. They are made of stainless steel or carbon steel, depending on customer preference and the properties of the product.
Roller conveyors carry the load on rollers, whatever type of drive system is used. The rollers are linked to one another by transmission elements such as chains or belts. The power from the drive unit turns all rollers at the same time, and the load moves forward thanks to the friction between the rollers and the load.
Vibrating conveyors are driven by a vibration motor and are used mainly to transfer powders and small granular materials. They are made of stainless steel or carbon steel, depending on customer preference and the properties of the product.
