STAINLESS STOCK TANK

Makfen designs and manufactures stainless stock tanks to suit your product, volume and site conditions. Stainless steel tanks are the preferred choice for the hygienic storage of liquids in the food, beverage, wine, oil, cosmetics and chemical industries because they resist corrosion, are easy to clean and do not affect the taste, colour or purity of the product. Tanks are engineered in accordance with TS EN, EN, ASME and API standards.

Material Selection for Stainless Stock Tanks

The shell material is chosen according to the product to be stored. AISI 304 or 304L is generally used for water, food, beverage and wine. Molybdenum-bearing AISI 316 or 316L is preferred for products containing chlorides, more aggressive chemicals and pharmaceutical applications. After welding, surfaces are protected by pickling and passivation; in hygienic applications the internal surfaces are polished to prevent product residues.

For chemical storage it is important to remember that stainless steel is not suitable for every product. For sulphuric acid, for example, the material is selected according to the acid concentration and temperature: concentrated sulphuric acid is usually stored in carbon steel tanks, while 304/316L grades can corrode rapidly at intermediate concentrations.

Sizes and Equipment

Stainless stock tanks can be manufactured in diameters from 1500 mm to 6500 mm and, on request, designed with a double wall, rock wool insulation and water heating. Standard equipment includes a filter, top and bottom manholes, a ship ladder and a level sensor; welded, bolted and nested construction options are available.
