DECANTERS

Decanters are horizontal scroll centrifuges that continuously separate solid-liquid or solid-liquid-liquid mixtures by centrifugal force. Because they can handle sludge-like mixtures with a high solids content, they are important process equipment not only in wastewater treatment but also in the chemical, petrochemical, paint, food and pharmaceutical sectors.

How Does a Decanter Work?

The mixture is fed into a cylindrical-conical bowl rotating at high speed. Under centrifugal force, the heavier solid particles settle against the bowl wall; a scroll rotating at a slightly different speed from the bowl conveys these solids to the conical end and discharges them. The clarified liquid leaves through adjustable weirs at the cylindrical end. Two-phase decanters separate solids from a liquid, while three-phase decanters separate solids from two immiscible liquid phases at the same time.
