DISSOLVER (PREMIX)

A dissolver (premix) is a high-speed mixer used in many industries, particularly the chemical, paint, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food sectors, to wet out and disperse powders (solids) in a liquid at high speed. The saw-tooth disc impeller (Cowles type) mounted on the shaft creates a strong vortex and shear effect in the product, breaking up powder agglomerates and producing a homogeneous premix. For this reason, dissolvers can be used both as disintegrators and as mixers, depending on the process requirements.

How Does a Dissolver Work?

On a dissolver, the speed is adjusted steplessly by a frequency inverter. Powder is added at low speed; during the dispersion stage the speed is increased so that the disc tip speed typically reaches around 20–25 m/s. The ratio of disc diameter to vessel diameter is the key design parameter that determines the flow pattern and the dispersion efficiency.

Built to the capacity required by the production process, Makfen dissolvers feature a stainless steel main shaft, a hydraulic clamping system that holds the vessel, hydraulic raising and lowering of the mixer head, and a speed control system.

Disperser

In industry the term disperser is mostly used as a synonym for dissolver; both machines act as mixers and disintegrators. For higher-viscosity products and solids that are harder to disperse, Makfen also builds disperser models with higher motor power. Used mainly in the chemical and paint sectors, dispersers can be applied across a wide batch capacity range from 200 litres to 2,500 litres.
