STAINLESS STEEL REACTOR

The stainless reactor is one of Makfen’s core areas of activity. Used mainly in the chemical industry, as well as in pharmaceutical and food production, these vessels provide a controlled environment for chemical reactions and are the main item of equipment in most processes.

Stainless reactors are built across a wide capacity range. They can operate under pressure or vacuum and perform heating, cooling and mixing either separately or together. The shell is mostly made of AISI 316L stainless steel. Depending on process conditions and customer preference, reactors are also manufactured in AISI 304L stainless steel, carbon steel, glass-lined (enamelled) steel, Hastelloy (a nickel alloy) and duplex stainless steel.

Key Considerations in Stainless Reactor Design

• Shell and accessory material: AISI 316/316L, AISI 304/304L, AISI 904L, AISI 310 stainless steel or carbon steel
• Chemical resistance: compatibility of the material with the product and the structural strength of the shell
• Operating pressure: design pressure and operation under vacuum
• Operating temperature: heating and cooling method, choice of jacket or coil
• Agitator speed: 900–3000 rpm for high-speed agitators, 10–120 rpm for low-speed agitators
• Agitator motor power: calculated from product viscosity and batch volume

Reactor Design Standards

Depending on the project, pressure reactors are designed within the scope of the Pressure Equipment Directive PED 2014/68/EU to EN 13445, ASME BPVC Section VIII or AD 2000-Merkblatt rules. Makfen holds AD 2000-Merkblatt HP 0 / PED 2014/68/EU and EN ISO 3834-2 welding quality certification.
